Being a rookie with all this I can only say I'm quite surprised what my Gal=C3=A8ne/libvirt/qemu-kvm setup does on really slow fan-less hardware. Maybe this could also depend on kernel, qemu, libvirt versions? I vaguely remember that there was work done for improving virtio.
