Dear all,

Galene 0.5.5 is available by doing

  git clone -b galene-0.5.5 https://github.com/jech/galene

For more information about the Galene videoconference server, please see

  https://galene.org

This version fixes a longstanding bug in the time conversion code which
would cause us to periodically send incorrect lipsync information to the
client and to miscalculate rates in the congestion control code. Many
thanks to lamhai1401, who gave me the hint that allowed me to finally look
in the right place.

Adrian Cable and myself have spent some time optimising the AES-CTR code,
you should see a 10% to 20% increase in performance if your client uses
AES-CTR. (Modern browsers negotiate AES-GCM, though.)

I've also changed the wording of the warning you get when you first
attempt screensharing on Safari, since I've seen a few conferences fail
due to Safari's implementation of screenshare. I have no idea whether
Galene is doing something wrong, or whether Safari is buggy.

23 July 2022: Galene 0.5.5

  * Fixed a longstanding bug with time conversion that would occasionally
cause us to miscalculate rates and send incorrect sender reports.
    Thanks to lamhai1401.
  * Updated srtp to a version that includes Adrian Cable's optimisations.
This should yield a 10% to 20% improvement for AES-CTR (but modern
    browsers use GCM).
  * Reworded the Safari warning to be more frightening, since
screensharing on Safari tends to get stuck.
