Dear all,

Galene 0.5 is available by doing

  git clone -b galene-0.5 https://github.com/jech/galene

For more information about the Galene videoconference server, please see

  https://galene.org

Due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, I've updated the Galene FAQ to
request that donations should go either to the Ukrainian army or the
Ukrainian Red Cross. I'll be updating the FAQ as I learn about other
needs.

(Please be aware that the refugee situation is going to get even worse
than it is now. If you live in a major city in Europe, please check
whether you or your acquaintances have available accomodation, and offer
to make it available to the organisations helping the refugees.)

The main news in this version is support for token authentication, which
makes it possible for people to easily integrate Galene with an existing
authentication infrastructure, such as LDAP or OAuth2 ("login with github").
Two flows are possible: Galene may be configured to consult a third-party
authentication, or an authentication portal may be used that redirects to
Galene (with an authentication token) after login. An example
authentication server is here:

  https://github.com/jech/galene-sample-auth-server

Note that the tokens that Galene uses are short-lived, stateless,
non-revocable tokens; they are therefore unsuitable for generating
autologin links, which need long-lived, revocable tokens. Since revocable
tokens are naturally stateful, a different mechanism will be needed for
autologin.

In other news, it is now possible to transfer files between peers. High
quality audio is now possible (check the new checkboxes in the side menu),
and audio quality is automatically updated when broadcasting a video from
a disk file. Screen sharing now includes audio. Finally, there is
a contextual menu attached to the users pane, which includes a number of
everyday commands (send file, etc.) and a number of administrative
commands. (I'm looking for a good place to attach an administrative menu
for the group itself.)

Слава Україні!
