From: Juliusz Chroboczek <jch@irif.fr> To: galene@lists.galene.org Subject: [Galene] ANNOUNCE: galene-0.5.1 Date: Fri, 25 Mar 2022 10:56:16 +0100 [thread overview] Message-ID: <87r16qtkxr.wl-jch@irif.fr> (raw) Galene 0.5.1 is available by doing git clone -b galene-0.5.1 https://github.com/jech/galene For more information about the Galene videoconference server, please see https://galene.org The Russian invasion of Ukraine is still ongoing, and there is a major refugee crisis in Europe. Please consider donating to Ukrainian causes, and, if you are in Europe, volunteer to help refugees or to lend them accomodation. This version enables simulcast and SVC in Firefox. This is rather neat, since Firefox is used a lot in Academia, and SVC dramatically improves video quality of large lectures and seminars. An unfortunate side effect is that VP9 no longer works with Firefox (Firefox bug 1633876); this is not a problem in the default group configuration, which uses VP8 for compatibility with Apple devices. Should you run into the issue, please ask the speaker to disable simulcast in the side menu. I've also fixed rate control in Firefox (another interesting Firefox bug, I'll tell you at some other time). There were some significant fixes to the code that saves to disk. In the presence of heavy packet loss, we no longer corrupt the data, but the saved stream still suffers from audio-video desynchronisation. I'm still investigating. 25 March 2022: Galene 0.5.1 * Enable simulcast on Firefox. * Fix rate control on Firefox. * Fix corruption after packet reordering when saving to disk. * Fix the H.264 profile for compatibility with older iPhones. * Display a warning when joining a locked group. * Add a hook that allows the client to influence the ICE policy. * Fix error handling in peer-to-peer file transfer. -- Juliusz
